Pin-spiration | Copper Wedding Colors

As we prepare for fall and all the gorgeous weddings that will take place during (what I personally think) the most stunning time of year, I can’t help but get a little giddy around all the pretty things I get to surround myself with! There are so many fabulous color palettes and perfectly paired themes that take place during the peak of fall wedding season. This year, I have to say, my absolute favorite color being incorporated is COPPER. Everyone is digging it. From a chic, modern approach with this metallic hue to bold jewel tones and a more bohemian feel. Nuptials of all kinds are adding this dazzling metal to romance their look and feel. And I LOVE it! No matter the approach, I am thrilled to see it incorporated into so many different styles.

Pin-spiration | Crushin’ on Black and White Stripes

I see stripes everywhere and I love it. Whether it’s pattern play in the fashion world or stripes in seasonal décor and color palettes in every wedding – I’m digging the stripes revolution. It’s been happening for a while but I think I have finally realized it can truly be used in any style. And I’m lovin’ it more than ever in our weddings for spring and summer!

The bold black and white stripe can be paired with just about any color combination whether they be sweet, soft pastels or bold, bountiful colors – stripes add that pop of fun and sophistication all in one. So whether you’re a bride planning a laid back outdoor soiree or a modern bride planning an urban affair, embrace the idea of stripes complimenting your style this season!

Pin-spiration | 2016 Color{s} of the Year: Rose Quartz & Serenity

When Pantone announced the 2016 Color(s) of the Year last month, I’m not going to lie, I was a little disappointed. Maybe it’s because I was absolutely OBSESSED with last year’s stunning color – Marsala. It’s hard to top – and I know I’m not the only one who thinks so! From gorgeous gowns, bold flowers, luscious lipstick, and décor accents for any occasion and anytime of year, you couldn’t go wrong and the color was sure to make a statement. And I’m still convinced Marsala will continue to be a top color choice for brides in 2016!

Anyways, on to this year’s Color of the Year – Rose Quartz & Serenity! No matter the material, the pairing of Rose Quartz (light pink) and Serenity (light blue) brings calm and relaxation given their soft, subtle hues. I do have to say, they’re attractive in all finishes. The charming duo pairs easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns and taupe, and all shades of pink and yellow. Simply add in metallics or bold brights for an even bigger statement and glitz. Because like I’ve always said, what bride doesn’t love a little sparkle!

Here’s a little pin-spiration and a few recommended color combinations (thanks to Pantone) to incorporate Rose Quartz and Serenity into your 2016 wedding!

Popping THE Question

Story time!!! I have to brag on my hubby for a second. Something I don’t do often enough. He bought my engagement ring MONTHS before he ever popped the question. He put a lot of thought into how/when/where he was going to do it and surprised me beyond belief. So to give you the abbreviated version of our love story (we dated 6 years before getting married). He told me he loved me for the first time while we were on spring break in 2009 on a pier at the beach in Panama City Beach, Florida (which was definitely closed off to the public for construction!). So when we planned a long weekend trip to Chicago in the fall of 2013, he got the great idea to begin planning the proposal to take place while we visited Navy Pier. Since he had never been there, he did his research and actually found an event planning company to assist him with the getting everything arranged since he knew he couldn’t escape my presence! They helped him pick a location at the pier, secured a local photographer, setup a sweet little table that had gorgeous flowers and my favorite sangria, along with a sign that said “11-16-13 | The day I asked Jessica to be my wife.” It was perfect. It was personal. It was incredibly memorable. And best of all, it was a total surprise.

So you have found the one you want to spend the rest of your life with {HOORAY!}. You’ve picked out the perfect ring {It’s worth every penny, I promise!}. Now what? How…when…where will you ask the biggest question of your life? This is probably the frantic thought process of many before popping THE question. In the past few years, hopeless romantics have started dreaming up their perfect proposal by their perfect lover captured all by those perfect proposal pictures. And you know the dirty culprit…Pinterest. In theory, a romantic trip to the beach with ‘Will you marry me?’ written in the sand is a great idea but you know we all want to know: 1) How they heck do these guys pull off escaping from their sweetheart in a foreign country? 2) How did they draw that in the sand so perfectly? Because who can draw that big and that straight? And 3) How did they keep all those other tourists feet from trampling over their beautiful question in the sand? I mean really – all legit questions. He either had help or has magic powers. Or both.

The thing is, gals (and guys, alike) don’t necessarily want some crazy, big, elaborate proposal. They want it to be personal and thought up from the heart. It’s that simple. No jumbo-tron or giant banner attached to a plane needed.

So if you’re one of the lucky ones who have found the love of your life and want to create a well-crafted proposal, here are a few things to think about that can help you get the creative juices flowing:

  • What common love/passion do we share?
  • What’s a favorite memory of the two of us?
  • Where’s a place we both find near and dear to our hearts?
  • Do I want the proposal to be an intimate setting or in a public place?
  • When do I want to pop the question?

Wedding Colors {Where do I start?}

Don’t start with Pinterest. Wait, what?

OK, I’m the first to admit it – and my husband will be the first to tell you: I’m incredibly indecisive. So when we got engaged, set the date, and started planning, I think we were both like, “Oh crap.” Scared that I would not be able to make decisions until the last minute, or fearing that I would change my mind 100 times, I forced myself to find an overall look and I vowed to stick with it. That doesn’t HAVE to be the case for everyone. I just knew that I had a whole year to plan which meant A LOT of time to spend countless hours on Pinterest and circle my way through every wedding vision that I had ever had. You know what Pinterest does to you! {Disclaimer: I do love Pinterest and it’s a great tool.}

Have you ever attended a wedding as a guest and instantly wondered, “What toddler did they let choose the colors?” Or immediately relate to the bride by understanding her indecisiveness around the 10,000 decisions that have to be made regarding ALL. THE. DETAILS. And praising her for just going for…well, everything. I was scared of being ‘That Bride’. So I knew going into selecting our ‘wedding colors’ that I didn’t necessarily want to pick colors that I just liked. I wanted to select colors and an overall look that would 1) be a good representation of my style and 2) be timeless, yet on trend. So, I wanted to share how I went about selecting the broad, over-arching details all the way down to the fine little details that half of our guests probably didn’t event notice!

This pretty little piece of jewelry is the one item I styled our entire wedding around. Yes, a necklace determined the fate of what our wedding was going to look like. My sister laughed at me a number of times because I would pack this baby around with me as inspiration and decision making on all things wedding related. I LOVED to look at it (and wear it, of course). The second I found something that I wanted to make or purchase regarding our wedding, I would pull this beauty out and make my decision. I know it may sound silly, but that is seriously all you need to help inspire your decision-making for your big day. And it helps eliminate most of the indecisiveness. Most, I said 🙂 We picked black attire for our wedding party, lots of mixed-metal accents with various textures and hues, and of course classic, pearly white features that helped tie everything together. For our November 2014 wedding, it was perfect.

I’m not saying go find a piece of jewelry to help plan your wedding – I’m saying do this:

  1. Find something that you love to look at. Eye candy. Yes, it’s that simple. It may come from a magazine. It may come from the outdoors. It may come from a random box at your parents house that you haven’t looked at in 20 years. You’d be surprised what will inspire you.
  2. Find something that represents YOUR style – both from a fashion sense and a décor perspective. You don’t have to plan a Vogue-esque wedding if that’s not you or your soon-to-be spouse. I knew I wanted a touch of vintage, rustic décor but in a modern, refined way. It’s possible if you have the right vision. Don’t overdo any one thing. It’s easy to find a well-balanced mixture so you don’t end up with a single theme, so to speak.
  3. Find something that is a good representation of you and your partner. Clearly, I knew this necklace was not something I would be finding as an accessory on my fiancé! But I did know that my hubby-to-be wasn’t going to go for anything loud, bright and off the charts when it came to our wedding look. We’re both pretty classic, laid-back people. However, we wanted our special day to be timeless, while still very much a fun celebration. We knew we wanted to keep the attire classy and timeless but the details we wanted to play up and be a true representation of us…as individuals and as a couple.

That’s how the decision-making began for our big day! I can’t wait to hear what inspiration and vision that you have! Please contact us if you want help styling your special day or need help on finding all those details – I would LOVE to help!
